The KPIs That Matter for Collection Merchandising

Collection merchandising comes down to four KPIs: collection conversion rate (do collection viewers buy), collection view rate (do shoppers reach the collection at all), abandon cart rate (do added items survive to checkout), and product position effectiveness (do your best converters hold the top spots). Track all four per collection, because each one fails differently and points to a different fix.

The Core Four, Briefly

  • Collection conversion rate (CVR): purchases from a collection divided by views of it. The headline number for whether merchandising is working.
  • Collection view rate: how much of your traffic actually sees the collection. Details in our collection view rate explainer.
  • Abandon cart rate (ACR): the share of carts started from this collection that never complete. See abandon cart rate for what moves it.
  • Product position effectiveness: the relationship between where products sit and how they sell, which exposes buried winners and overexposed laggards.

How Do They Work Together?

The value is in the combination, because each KPI rules problems in or out. A collection with a low view rate has an exposure problem: fix navigation, homepage links, or campaign landing pages before touching the sort order, because re-sorting a page nobody visits changes nothing. A collection with a healthy view rate but weak conversion has a relevance problem, and the first rows are the usual suspect. A high abandon cart rate with decent conversion elsewhere suggests price, shipping, or stock friction rather than sorting. And position effectiveness is the early-warning system: when strong converters drift down the page, conversion usually follows later.

Review the four together on a regular cadence per collection, not as store-wide averages, since averages hide exactly the outliers you need to act on.

Dynasort reports all four on every plan, alongside the sorting itself. Install it from the Shopify App Store or see how it works.
