Shopify keeps showing sold-out products in storefront search results, and there is no native toggle to remove them. A search re-ranking app fixes this per rule: hide out-of-stock products from results entirely, or sink them below everything in stock, and return them automatically the moment inventory comes back.
Why Sold-Out Results Cost Sales
A search click on a sold-out product is a dead end at the exact moment intent peaks. The shopper typed what they wanted, chose a result, and hit a wall. Some try another result; many leave. The damage is worst in the search dropdown, where only a handful of suggestions show and a single unbuyable one wastes a scarce slot. Hiding sold-out items is usually the single biggest conversion improvement a store gets from its search.
Hide or Demote?
Both are valid, and the right choice depends on the product:
- Hide entirely when the product may not return soon. Every result a shopper sees is buyable, and the page reads as fully in stock.
- Demote to the bottom when restocks are coming and you run back-in-stock notifications. The product stays findable for shoppers who specifically want it, without blocking the top positions.
- Either way, restocks return automatically. The moment inventory goes above zero, the product is back in results at whatever position its data earns.
In Dynasort this is one setting on the search recipe, and the same inventory awareness runs on your collection pages, so sold-out products sink everywhere at once.
