How to Add Product Recommendations to the Shopify Cart Page

Add a recommendations section to your cart page or cart drawer in the theme editor, then bind it to logic that reads the cart. A good cart row considers everything already in the cart, recommends products that pair with it, never repeats an item, and ranks suggestions by a rule you choose, such as complements first, then margin.

What Makes a Good Cart Row

The cart is the highest-intent surface before checkout, and the row’s job is additions, not alternatives. That means a few rules matter more here than anywhere else:

  • Seed from the whole cart, not one product, so suggestions fit the order being built.
  • Never repeat cart items. A row that suggests what is already in the cart reads as broken.
  • Favor complements and margin over bestsellers. “Goes with what you chose” outperforms “here is what is popular” at this stage.
  • Cap per brand on multi-vendor catalogs so one label does not fill every slot.

Setup in Minutes

With Dynasort: create or pick a recommendation recipe, bind it to the cart placement, and add the section in your theme editor once. Display settings, badges, quick add-to-cart, and the ranking logic itself are all controlled from the app afterward, and the row’s serves, clicks, adds, and checkouts are tracked so you can see what it actually contributes to orders.

Dynasort cart rows read the cart and recommend what pairs with it. Install it from the Shopify App Store or see cart recommendations in action.
