A BFCM early-access list lets you sell Black Friday before Black Friday: your best customers shop the sale a day or more before the public, and everyone wins. Halfway through the countdown, this is the first tip that is pure Cyber Monday prep, and it is the one to start today because it needs weeks of runway to build the list it runs on.
The mechanics are simple. Starting now, invite people to sign up for early access to your BFCM sale: a signup bar on the store, a line in your email flows, a mention on social. Then, the day before your public sale opens, that list gets the link. That is the whole trick, and it pays out four separate ways.
- Intent capture. “Get early access to our Black Friday sale” converts browsers who are not ready to buy today but are already planning to buy in November. A discount popup asks for a purchase; this asks for a promise, which is much easier to give.
- A pre-sold opening day. Your sale opens to an audience that asked to be there. No cold traffic, no ad spend, the highest-intent segment you own, first.
- A smoothed spike. Cyber weekend traffic stresses everything: support, inventory math, your own attention. Moving your best customers a day earlier flattens the peak and gives you a soft launch that shakes out broken links and mispriced variants before the crowd arrives.
- Loyalty that costs nothing. Early access is a reward with no margin cost. Your VIPs get status instead of an extra discount, and status is the cheaper currency.
One sale, three acts
The list you build in October decides how strong act two is.
Early access must be real: genuinely earlier, same or better terms. VIPs who find a deeper public discount two days later will remember it.
The rules that keep it honest
Early access only works if early is true. The list must genuinely shop before everyone else, on terms at least as good as the public gets. And guard the inventory math: if your doorbuster can sell out during early access, cap what the early window can take or choose a different lead offer. “VIPs bought everything” is a bad headline for the public opening.
You started capturing email back in tip 15. This is where that work starts compounding: the early-access list is the sharpest segment your list will ever produce, people who told you weeks ahead that they intend to buy from your sale. Build the signup this week. Every day you wait is a day of Q4 traffic walking past it.
