On multi-vendor catalogs, recommendation rows tend to collapse toward the most popular brand: its products win every demand-based ranking, so it quietly fills every slot. The fix is a per-brand cap, a rule that limits how many products one vendor can hold in a row, forcing variety without abandoning data-driven ranking.
Why It Happens
Popularity signals correlate strongly within a brand. A label with the best sales velocity usually also has the best conversion rate and the most reviews, so whatever mix of demand signals your ranking uses, the same vendor tops all of them. The row is technically correct, every slot went to a strong product, and strategically wrong: shoppers see a one-brand store, other vendors get no exposure, and discovery narrows to what was already winning.
The Cap Fix
- Cap slots per vendor, commonly one or two per row. The strongest brand still leads; it just cannot monopolize.
- Ranking still decides who fills the remaining slots, so variety comes from your data, not random rotation.
- Set it per placement. A cart row pairing accessories might tolerate more brand concentration than a home page discovery row should.
In Dynasort, max-per-brand is a per-placement behavior setting on recommendation rows. If you also run a multi-brand storefront wholesale or on marketplaces, the same idea applies anywhere one vendor’s popularity can crowd out the catalog you actually want shown.
Dynasort keeps multi-vendor recommendation rows varied. Install it from the Shopify App Store or see the per-brand cap in the docs.
